Parents

The 7Ignites initiative aims to create a classroom environment where technology supports 21st century skills. The 1:1 initiative also brings the advantage of ‘anytime, anywhere’ access that leaves ‘bell-to’bell’ learning behind by allowing students to extent learning opportunities to 24/7! Parents play a tremendous role in making the program a success for their child by encouraging educational use, creating rules and laying boundaries and by ensuring safe and acceptable use of the device and the Internet. Because our children’s technology knowledge oftentimes seems to outpace that of adults, many parents may be apprehensive about parenting in the digital world. Our 7Ignites website offers some great resources to help parents gather knowledge and ask questions on issues related to the use of technology. Check back often for updated information!

Digital Citizenship

District 7 takes the privacy and safety of our students very seriously and have a number of resources and initiatives in place to ensure that students, staff and parents are well-educated on all aspects of digital literacy and internet safety. Using a multi-pronged approach that includes monitoring and filtering systems, set district policies/procedures and, most importantly, a proactive digital citizenship program that educates students and staff on the safe and ethical use of technology, teaching them to become self-aware and self-regulated participants in the digital world. To do so, we implement lessons and use Common Sense Media at Common Sense Media as our main digital citizenship program. Each school implements digital citizenship curriculum on an ongoing basis, creating a culture of responsible use and ethical digital behavior. We encourage parents to join in our commitment to raising good citizens! To learn how visit and sign up for a parent account at Common Sense Media.
